THE ATELIER
Timeless Craft in a Place of Legacy – The Atelier in Kastanienbaum
In Kastanienbaum, a small village on the shores of Lake Lucerne, lies the heart of Ciconiidae – the atelier where every handbag begins its story, from the first sketch to the final stitch.
Today, this space is dedicated to quiet craftsmanship and creative expression. Yet just a few hundred meters away, leather once played a central role in the village’s past: In the 19th century, a tannery operated here, using natural extracts from chestnut trees to tan fine leather.
This historic link is more than a coincidence – it’s a quiet echo of the past. A reminder of how deeply leather, nature, and craftsmanship were once intertwined.

KASTANIENBAUM
WHERE HANDBAGS
COME TO LIFE

At the Ciconiidae atelier, every piece is crafted entirely by hand. From the initial sketch to the final edge finish, every detail is shaped with patience and care.
Everything is created under one roof – with intention, precision, and respect for time.
Designs and patterns are drawn by hand.

Calf and goatskin leather are prepared, sanded, and edge-sealed

Gemstones are individually set into hand-molded leather frames

Using traditional techniques and refined tools, the bags are slowly brought to life

Each handbag is one of a kind – a true expression of artisanal excellence, shaped by the spirit of this place. In Kastanienbaum, the story of leather continues – quietly, purposefully, and reimagined through the collections of Ciconiidae.
